Playing at the New York Go Center
Getting Started The first person you will meet at the center will be Tommy, the club manager. He will collect your game fee, have you sign in and will direct you around the center. If you are above the rank of absolute beginner, you will may well start by playing Tommy. This will give him an idea of how strong you are, and he will be able to set you up with other players. He will also recomend what color or handicap a pair of players should start with. If you are an absolute beginner, Tommy can give you some quick lessons or play a teaching game. In either case, absolute beginner or experienced player, if Tommy is busy or unable to play, he will recomend whichever of the players he feels is appropriate.
Eating & Drinking Drinking is allowed at all of the tables. Coffee, Tea & Cold Sodas are available for $1 each. Please feel free to supply your own beverages ( incl. alcoholic ones ). Please do not eat at the Go tables. There is a dining table in the Front Room for this purpose. Please feel free to bring a meal or a snack. There are several good restaurants in the area that will deliver. Off the Front Room is a small kitchen for use by the players.
Smoking Downstairs from the Main Hall is the Smoking Lounge with 15 Go tables set up. Smoking is occasionally allowed in the Front Room. If it is not very crowded, you can try asking Tommy and any players in the Front Room for permission to smoke there. You may also want to consider using the Terrace.
